LOCATION & PARKING

Questions? We got you.

Do I need to book a session in advance?

Sessions must be booked through either our website or mobile app.

How long are sessions?

Standard sessions are 75 minutes. We require you to be out of the unit when your time is up so that it can be cleaned for the next session.

Can I extend my session if there is space in the session after me?

Certainly. Ask the staff member or look through the app to see if there’s space in the following session. You can either book through the app or pay the staff member via credit card.

What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?

Cash refunds will not be issued. Cancellations made outside of 24 hours from a scheduled session will automatically have that credit returned. Cancellations within 24 hours will forfeit the credit.

Can I book a private group session?

Yes. Private group sessions are subject to availability and will incur an additional fee. Fill out the form here to book.

What is the maximum group size for private bookings?

Private bookings can accommodate groups up to 15 people.

What is appropriate attire?

Wear whatever you would feel comfortable wearing at a pool. Avoid wearing heavy clothing and metal jewelry (it can burn you). Nudity, wearing “sweat suits”, and wearing shoes are NOT ALLOWED in the sauna.

Can I eat or drink during my session?

Eating is generally not allowed unless you have a health condition that requires it. Fluids must be water or a hydration-specific solution (no soft drinks) and be kept in a spill-proof container. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed.

How long should I stay in the sauna or cold water?

Sauna sessions are best kept to 10–20 minutes, while cold plunge sessions are best kept between 1–3 minutes. Always listen to your body and adjust based on your comfort and experience level.

Should I sauna or cold plunge first?

It depends on personal preference. Some prefer to start with the sauna to relax muscles before plunging into the cold, while others start with the cold plunge to invigorate their system.

What’s the best way to transition between the sauna and the cold plunge?

The ideal transition is to start by warming up in the sauna for 10–20 minutes, then step out, cool off briefly at room temperature, and enter the cold plunge for 1–3 minutes. Afterward, take a moment to rest and rehydrate before returning to the sauna. Repeating this cycle 2–3 times allows you to fully enjoy the benefits of both therapies. Always listen to your body and adjust the duration based on your comfort level.

Can I wear makeup or skincare products in the sauna?

We recommend removing makeup and skincare products before entering the sauna. The heat causes your pores to open and sweat to release toxins, which can lead to clogged pores or irritation if makeup or products mix with sweat. Additionally, some products may melt, stain towels, or leave residues in the sauna, impacting cleanliness for other users.

Can I use essential oils in the sauna?

No, for safety and cleanliness reasons, we do not allow the use of essential oils in the sauna. While they can enhance relaxation, oils may leave residue on surfaces, become a slipping hazard, or release fumes that may irritate others.

Should I hydrate before and after sessions?

Yes, staying hydrated is essential before and after using the sauna or cold plunge. Bring a water bottle with you to prevent dehydration.

What are the benefits of sauna and cold plunge therapy?

Saunas promote relaxation, detoxification, improved circulation, and muscle recovery. Cold plunges can reduce inflammation, boost energy, and enhance mental clarity.

Are saunas and cold plunges safe for everyone?

While generally safe for most people, those with certain medical conditions (e.g., heart issues, low blood pressure, or pregnancy) should consult a healthcare provider before use.

Who should avoid sauna and cold-plunge?

Individuals who are pregnant, have unstable heart conditions, or suffer from certain chronic illnesses should avoid or seek medical advice before use.

Are there any risks to sauna or cold plunge use that I should be aware of?

Yes, while sauna and cold plunge use are generally safe for most people, there are some risks to keep in mind:

Dehydration:

Prolonged heat exposure in the sauna can lead to dehydration. Drink plenty of water before and after your session.

Blood Pressure Changes:

The heat from the sauna can lower blood pressure, while the cold plunge can cause a sudden spike. Those with heart conditions or blood pressure issues should consult a healthcare provider before use.

Overheating:

Staying in the sauna too long can cause dizziness, nausea, or fainting.

Shock Response to Cold Plunge:

The sudden cold can trigger hyperventilation or a shock response in some individuals, especially those unaccustomed to cold exposure.

If you feel unwell at any point, stop immediately, cool down, and hydrate. Always consult a healthcare provider if you have medical conditions or concerns before participating.

What should I do if I feel unwell during a session?

Alert SVETTE staff and remove yourself from the sauna room. Take some time to cool down and hydrate before easing yourself back into the heat.

Are there bathrooms?

Yes. Owen Beach Park has public male and female bathrooms that are available for you to use.

What is the specific location of the sauna?

Use this Google Maps Pin to find the location of the sauna.

Are there changing rooms?

Our mobile sauna has a small built-in changing room to quickly change and store your valuables. It is not divided by gender, so nudity is not allowed—be ready to towel-change or use one of the park’s bathroom stalls.

What do I do with my clothes/valuables while I sauna?

The attached changing room is a space to store your belongings.

What if I forgot my towel or water bottle?

We have towels and water that you can rent. Please purchase through our store and notify staff of your purchase upon arrival.

Is there water provided?

Water fountain available at Owen Beach.

What should I bring to my sauna session?

Water source, towel, and a change of clothes.

How hot is the sauna?

We keep our sauna at an average of 180F. Lower seats will feel cooler, and higher seats will feel hotter.

What is the temperature of the water?

The temperature of the Puget Sound fluctuates between 46F (winter) and 58F (summer). Click here for its real-time temperature.

Is the water clean?

The natural currents at Owen Beach ensure year-round crystal-clear water. Swimming conditions are monitored by WA Dept of Ecology and updated if they change.

How often is the sauna cleaned?

The sauna is cleaned before every session with a gentle, non-toxic antibacterial/antifungal cleaning solution.

Is there a shower available to rinse off before and after the cold plunge?

Owen Beach does not have a public shower.

Can children use the sauna?

Minors between the ages of 13-17 are allowed to use the sauna as long as their parent or legal guardian signs their waiver form.

Do I need to arrive early?

Please plan to arrive five minutes early to check in to your session. On weekends, the park gets busier, so plan a little extra time to find parking.

Where do I park?

Park at the Owen Beach Park Parking Lot.

Can I bring my phone or other electronics?

For safety and relaxation purposes, we recommend keeping electronics outside the sauna. Heat and moisture can damage devices—use at your own risk.

Can I bring a friend or family member to watch or join?

Out of consideration for other guests’ experience, we ask that you do not bring anyone to watch your session. Your friend/family member can join if they make their own reservation or if you select the “bring a friend” option in your reservation.

Are sessions co-ed or are there separate times for men and women?

All standard sessions are co-ed. Special events or private rentals may be separated and are by exception.

What music or atmosphere is provided in the sauna? Can I bring my own playlist?

SVETTE staff will play generally calming music, but feel free to make song requests. We ask that you do not play anything on an external speaker since it will disrupt the experience for other guests.

What happens if I arrive late to my session?

If you arrive late, you won’t get a refund, but you’ll still be able to complete your session.

What happens in bad weather? (e.g., rain, snow)

SVETTE operates year-round so long as the road to Owen Beach is open. Refunds will be issued if last-minute park closures prevent you from attending your session.

What are your operating hours?

SVETTE operates within Parks Tacoma’s opening hours (30mins before sunrise, 30mins after sunset). All guests must leave the park by the time the gate is locked 30mins after sundown.

Where can I find more information about your policies?
